Cadex Max 40 wheelset

£3,500 Flyweight 40mm-deep, all-carbon wheels

The new Max 40 wheelset from Giant’s in-house components brand Cadex combines Giant’s featherweight carbon-flanged hubs with filament-wound aerodynamically shaped spokes and a 40mm-deep aero rim. Originally designed for the new Giant TCR, the Max 40 wheels are aimed at road use and optimised around 28mm tyres. Weighing 1,310g, they undercut Cadex’s 36 Disc wheels by 12g, despite being slightly deeper. The 28mm-wide rim sports a 22.4mm internal width, which is on the narrow side – rivals such as Zipp’s 353 NSW and ENVE’s SES 3.4 are both 25mm wide internally. Spokes are carbon-bladed – 16 front and 24 rear – and there’s a new hub design with aerodynamic flanges. The Max 40s aren’t built like traditional wheels.
