Getting wet and cold is no fun at all, so a decent-quality waterproof is an important investment, helping to keep you riding through all weathers. A good jacket will not only keep water out, but will also be breathable so you’re not wet with sweat inside it when pedalling hard. It also needs to be comfortable to wear, potentially for many hours on the bike, with an optimal fit and cut. Then, there are all the extra features such as well-placed pockets, packability and good-quality zips to consider. As with most things, you’ll generally get what you pay for, but hopefully your new outer layer should last several years.
