British Cycling performance director Stephen Park reveals the behind-the-scenes work with elite riders ahead of Paris 2024

The Olympics is a very exciting time. People are conscious of, and ambitious about, British prospects across sport as a whole, but certainly within cycling – and we’re very much looking forward to it. The big thing for us is just trying to make sure the athletes are as physically and mentally well prepared as they possibly can be. Although road cyclists spend their year riding for pro teams, we do have good engagement with them, too. Our coaches Matt Brammeier and Chris Newton have regular contact with the riders. For example, we know Tom Pidcock is still trying to balance the road and mountain bike disciplines, but we work with Tom, his coach Kurt Bogaerts and his team Ineos Grenadiers to make sure we can support his aspirations.
