If we had travelled back in time and suggested to Breitling’s designers slaving over the Navitimer blueprint that, maybe, the gargantuan pilot’s watch that they had been working on could also cut it as a daintier and more glamorous wristwatch, chances are, they would’ve secured a restraining order against us. And why wouldn’t they? Since its inception in 1952, the Breitling Navitimer has been as emblematic to the brand as, say, the Birkin is to Hermès. Not only was it a handsome ticker, it was conceived to be an essential tool watch for pilots back then, who would use it to make all types of calculations pertaining to airborne navigation, including speed, distance, fuel consumption, rate of climb and descent, and conversion of metric distance, thanks to the watch’s trademark integrated…
