Solar Eclipse QSO Parties Competition, Fun and Science Wrapped Up Together

Here’s a way to have fun on the radio, compete with your fellow hams and contribute to scientific research all at the same time. On October 14, 2023, HamSCI – the Ham Radio Science Citizen Investigation group – will be sponsoring the first of two upcoming Solar Eclipse QSO Parties in conjunction with, you guessed it, two upcoming solar eclipses. The October 14 event will be an annular, or partial, eclipse. According to NASA, “(a) solar eclipse occurs when the Moon passes in front of the Sun as seen from Earth. An annular eclipse happens when the Moon is far enough away from the Earth in its orbit that the Moon doesn’t quite appear large enough to cover the entire disc of the sun, leaving a ring of fire’ ”…
