Dayton Road Trip – Part 2

In the previous visit, our heroes were about to hit the highway; three hams on a road trip to Dayton from Southern California, (and hopefully, back). Here are the further adventures of John Kitchens, NS6X; Rob Hanson, W6RH, and Jeff Reinhardt, AA6JR (Photo A). Tuesday May 16 Depart SoCal at 7:00 a.m. Avoided most of L.A.’s rush hour traffic on our way to I-40 and the desert. First stop in Kingman, Arizona, for fuel and lunch. Some spotty showers but nothing serious. No HF contacts. Band conditions poor but something seems amiss. Monitoring 146.52 on VHF, nothing heard in spite of many announcements saying that we were monitoring. No signs of any other hams on the road.
