H. Russell Smith, N0QLT (Poem, “CW,” within Zero Bias, p. 6), is an electrical engineer and author of Time Machines, Annoying Minotaurs, and Other Childish Pursuits and Windmills. He is a citizen of the Cherokee Nation and lives near Joplin, Missouri. Although he’s not super good at it, CW is—and always has been—his favorite mode. Steven Karty, N5SK (“Who REALLY Invented Morse Code?” p. 8), is a former manager of the Department of Homeland Security’s SHARES (SHAred RESources) High Frequency program. Licensed since 1960, has written extensively in the ham literature on digital communications as well as several articles for CQ on protecting your station from lightning and electromagnetic pulse (EMP) voltage surges.
