The Do’s and Don’ts of Modding My Avalon and more

Spring has been a busy time – multiple trips, field activations, new antennas at the house, licensing classes, local hamfests, and family fun. My major trip was to Xenia, Ohio, for Hamvention. I drove with Jeff Reinhardt, AA6JR, and Rob Hanson, W6RH, in my Toyota Avalon hybrid, and it was a great adventure. Jeff reported on it in his “Magic in the Sky“ column in the last issue of CQ. For the trip, I had decided to use the IsoPwr to isolate the radio battery from the vehicle’s electrical system, and to keep it charged. The Avalon starting battery is in the right rear wheel well, with an access cover in the trunk. Thank you, Toyota, for making this easy! I bought a new Group31 battery to use for radio…
