Looking out from the balcony off my bedroom at Kirra Point Holiday Apartments, the ocean is a perfect crystal-clear blue and flat as a tack. I can see a little splashing on the reef not far from the shore. It’s a sea turtle; I’ve never seen one swimming in the ocean before. Much further out, a whale breaches on her annual pilgrimage to warmer waters to have her calf. A truly magical sight! What a way to start a long weekend: an escape to Queensland in winter to thaw out a little and enjoy the sunshine.
