“It’s a blessing to learn more about the man who had such a huge impact on the formation of our country.” — Jesse Neve Sure, everyone “knows” George Washington, but how did he grow up and become one of America’s founding fathers? While on vacation in the Williamsburg, Virginia, area, our family made a daytrip north to learn as much as we could about his boyhood, military service and presidential life. We visited everything from his birthplace to his grave. As we drove along, I read a biography to the kids so they could connect with what we would be seeing. THE EARLY YEARS George Washington was born on the Popes Creek Plantation in what is now Colonial Beach, Virginia. The 550-acre property is on the creek a mile from the Potomac River.…
