On a Colorado trip, Joshua Berman discovers that dad and daughter bonding can happen anywhere.

I fired up the wood stove in our yurt just before dawn, trying to make as little noise as possible; I lit the logs, closed the tiny iron door and put a kettle on top. My 10-year-old daughter, Zenlana, slept peacefully in her bed to the side. Heat quickly warmed the single round room, and I soon had boiling water and a full French press of strong coffee. We were on a spring skiing and hot springs daddy-daughter trip, aiming for south central Colorado’s greatest hits.
