Reporter: Tire talk, deck device & cash for creatures

OH, SCRAP Tire Stewardship BC—a non-profit that recycles scrap tires—recently announced that it would partner with the Ocean Legacy Foundation in a five-year, province-wide recycling effort. “Ocean Legacy Foundation is the only organization that accepts foam-filled tires from beach cleanups and dock deconstructions,” Rosemary Sutton, the executive director of Tire Stewardship, explained in a recent press release. MAN VS. MACHINE You’ve heard of RoboCop (you have, right?); now there’s RoboDeck, the world’s first robot guaranteed to make the tedious job of deck maintenance (cleaning, staining) faster and cooler. The device—it’s a little bigger than a Roomba vacuum—was created by an Israeli company in 2021. This summer, the company reported that it had scored $2 million in “pre-seed” investor cash. Now, if only someone would invent a robot that could bring in the dock…
