VISION LAPIDAIRE Comment Norman Foster a-t-il réussi à renouveler l'architecture romaine? Avec son équipe, et en collaboration avec l'architecte nîmois Jean Capia, il a pensé sa façade monolithique en béton stratifié, métaphore de la stratigraphie archéologique. Elle a été élaborée selon une technique alliant différentes couleurs de terre ferrugineuse locale. Ses stratifications dans un camaïeu d'ocre rappellent celles des archéologues lors de chantier de fouille. Il se rapproche aussi du type de mortier utilisé par les Romains, deux à trois fois plus solide que le béton. L'entrée du musée de 6890m2 se fait par une rampe surplombée par un impressionnant porte-à-faux menant à une cour intérieure.
