DESSINS EN ARÈNE Artiste membre fondateur du mouvement Supports/Surfaces dans les années 1970, qui appelle à un renouvellement de l’art hors des matériaux traditionnels, Claude Viallat commence à travailler sur des bâches industrielles, sur lesquelles il répète à l’infini une même forme abstraite. Répété au pochoir sur divers supports, ce motif ouvre une réflexion sur le sens du geste créatif et le statut d’œuvre d’art. Reconnu internationalement pour cette pratique, il l’est moins pour ses dessins de taureau, sauf sur sa terre camarguaise. « J’ai passé ma jeunesse à Aubais et le taureau a toujours eu une grande importance. Mon grand-oncle a soigné Le Sanglier, ce taureau devenu mythique qui remplaçait dans les cuisines le Christ. Jusqu’à 55 ans, j’ai raseté (défier un taureau) en amateur et je l’ai toujours…
