REPAIRE PICTURAL En 1901, Paul Cézanne, vieillissant et de plus en plus solitaire, bâtit son atelier selon ses propres plans, sur la colline des Lauves. Conservé tel quel, cet antre monacal est peuplé de ses objets familiers: chapeau, houppelande, pot à olives, amour en plâtre, série de crânes qu'il met en scène dans ses natures mortes. Là, derrière une vaste verrière diffusant une luminosité stable, le peintre travaille des œuvres souvent monumentales, notamment Les Grandes Baigneuses. Un « passe-tableau » percé dans le mur lui permet d'aller en vérifier les couleurs à la lumière du jour. Ce sont les dernières années de sa vie, les plus austères, les plus fécondes.
