WITH ITS LATEST redesign, the Accord Hybrid is among the best cars on the market, thanks to its roomy cabin, fuel-efficient powertrain, and easy-to-use controls. In our tests the four-cylinder engine and electric drive combined to return 40 mpg overall—good but 7 mpg less than the previous generation Hybrid. The higher-trim EX-L with 17-inch wheels gets 4 mpg more, according to the EPA. Still, this impressive powertrain is quite refined, seamlessly switching back and forth between electric and gas propulsion. We like the Honda’s eager handling feel through corners, with finely weighted steering and minimal body roll. The suspension shrugs off most bumps effectively, but the Sport Hybrid’s large tires allow pronounced bumps to punch through into the cabin in a noticeably firm fashion.
