WATCH OUT FOR… Fake Argos ‘£170 refund’ messages What’s the threat? Fraudsters are sending text messages claiming you’re owed money on your Argos credit card. The scam says: “Your Argos card has a refund of £170 from an overpayment”. It tells you to tap a link to get your money back, but this leads to a fake website that will steal your payment details. What makes the scams hard to spot is that they appear as part of an existing conversation thread with Argos. ‘Big John’, a DJ on Sheffield radio station Hallam FM, tweeted a screenshot of the scam (www.snipca.com/28414, pictured) showing how it appeared below “legit texts” stating he had a package to collect. Argos’s customer-service team (https://twitter.com/ArgosHelpers) told him to ignore the message, saying “multiple customers” had received it. The company later…
