PRE-WAR MOTORING IN A POST-WAR AGE

Last issue we featured two lovely cars owned by Keith Fox – a Triumph TR3A and an MG TC. I do have some experience of the sidescreen TRs and consider them great cars, but I've never had the pleasure of driving a TC, and Keith's feature left me wondering what that experience would be like. So when I happened to be passing my local classic car specialist, Hall's Garage, and noticed that they had just such a car for sale, plans were quickly put into place for a road test.

ROAD TEST MG TC The MG T-Types were produced in five flavours from 1936 to 1955 – TA, TB, TC, TD and TF. (There was no TE.) Those can be broadly arranged in three groups. Starting with the TA, this was the first fruit of a rationalisation programme for MG production following the marque's sale by William Morris to his Morris Motors company in 1935. The new T-Type's styling was a development of what had gone before, but the previous OHC engines were replaced with an OHV pushrod unit derived from the Morris 10.
