PASSING ON THE PASSION

Andrew Bailey and his son James share a passion for classic cars, and they have a particular fondness for sit-up-and-beg Fords. At the age of 13 James even has one of his own, but it is Andrew's 1953 Ford Anglia E494A that we've come to see today.

READERS' CARS FORD ANGLIA Having been built in 1953, my Anglia is from the end of production as the new 100E took over that year, although the older car did continue as the Ford Popular 103E until 1959. Even in 1953 the Anglia would have looked old fashioned because it was old fashioned. I wasn't around when these were on the road as everyday transport, but my dad was into classic cars, and when I was a kid he used to take us round to shows. He actually bought this Anglia in 1986, so it was already a classic by the time he got it.
