Toyota GT86 (2012-2021) Developed in conjunction with Subaru (it was built in the same factory as its BRZ model) the GT86 will appeal to those looking for an affordable driver’s car that’s light, indecently quick and very unlikely to go wrong. The reason it’s likely to become a classic one day is because it’s refreshingly simple; a slinky coupé body cloaks a well-balanced chassis, while a normally-aspirated fourcylinder engine drives the rear wheels via a six-speed manual or auto gearbox with a limited slip rear differential to glue it to the road. While the 197bhp from its 2.0-litre flat-four engine might not seem much, it’s enough to propel the lightweight GT86 from 0-62mph in only 7.6 seconds.
