The ‘lightweight’ road-legal 911 has long ceased to be a Porsche delivering intensified driving pleasure and which is suitable for privately entered motorsport, thanks to its pared down equipment and lesser kilos. An RS, GT3 or GT2 is now, in effect, a speculator’s investment chip. Even when new, it’s not unusual for a GT Porsche to go from dealer showroom to a collector’s vault with little (if any) mileage in between. It’s a state of affairs Porsche has encouraged, offering limited runs of cars it knows are unlikely to be risked on any kind of race track.
