As editor of not one, but two Porsche magazines, and as the former editor of two further Porsche titles, the question I’m asked more than any other concerns the sourcing of feature cars. “How on earth do you find them?” is the general line of enquiry. You don’t spend as long as I have in this game without building up an extensive network of contacts, but even I’m amazed at the continual stream of classic Porsches emerging from long-time hibernation.
When you think about it, despite what seems like a never-ending supply of 356s, 911s, 912s, and 914s (and much more besides) flowing through restoration workshop doors, Porsche’s air-cooled output was always low-volume, certainly compared to the brand’s current series production activities.
