Badged as SC (Super Carrera, nomenclature not seen since the 356), the new-for-1978 911 featured an all-aluminum three-litre flat-six fed by Bosch K-Jetronic mechanical fuel injection, with power planted to the road by a five-speed Type 915 gearbox. Launch models developed output in the region of 180bhp, which was down on the outgoing Carrera 3.0, but mirroring the production lifecycle of previous Porsche sports cars, evolution throughout the SC's five-year production run saw power increase, rising to near 204bhp by the time of discontinuation in 1983. Cabriolet and Targa offerings were key to the SC’s appeal, which grew exponentially under the guidance of Porsche CEO, Peter Schutz.
