In a way, this is a story of two icons of the automotive world. Most hardcore Porsche enthusiasts will recognise the first: the four-cam Carrera engine. This formidable flat-four equipped a handful of high-end race and road Porsches in the manufacturer’s early years, not least the 356 A Carrera GT Speedster, the 356 B/2000 GS Carrera 2, the 550 RS Spyder and the 904 Carrera GTS. The second doesn’t possess Porsche DNA, though left its mark in a major way following release into the wild in 1964. We’re talking about the Meyers Manx dune buggy.
