Dear Honda, thanks for all the V4 adventure tourers you keep churning out, but there’s only one V4 we’re really interested in. Hand-built by HRC technicians in white lab coats against a backdrop of classical music, the word ‘iconic’ was clearly invented for the prestigious RC30. Created to win races along with hearts and minds, the world-conquering RC30 introduced to a Japanese home market in 1987 was sold out before the tyres from the first batch of 1000 bikes reached a single showroom. The remaining 2000 bikes made from 1988-1990 were snapped up by race teams and enthusiasts alike, despite the high price tag – £8495 in the UK. But why was it so good?
