Commercials played an important part in this year’s Lancaster Insurance Classic Motor Show at the National Exhibition Centre in Birmingham, with several new restorations on display. Nick Larkin reports.

Many visitors might have gone to Birmingham’s National Exhibition Centre merely to see the 3000 or so cars and bikes at the Lancaster Insurance Classic Motor Show but left impressed by the great selection of commercials on display. An important centenary was celebrated by the Morris Commercial Club, being 100 years since William Morris set up Morris Commercial Cars to build lorries. Five examples of the first product, the T-type or ‘Tonner’, were on the club’s stand. These comprised a 1932 T2 pickup owned by Peter Oliver, 1933 L2 breakdown truck, owned by Jonathan Milicevic, the 1939 T3 van under restoration owned by Terry Dodd, a 1928 LT van exhibited by Matt Harris, and the 1924 Tonner owned by John Wood.
