Tofu is a great first ingredient to practice cooking on: Since it’s safe to eat raw, you don’t have to worry too much about how long you cook it. You can serve the tofu cubes with rice or a simple side, top a salad with them to make a main dish, or even use them as a taco filling.

❚ ADULT: YES ❚ HANDS-ON TIME: 10 MINUTES ❚ TOTAL TIME: 1 HOUR 10 MINUTES ❚ MAKES: 4 SERVINGS KITCHEN GEAR Clean dish towel or paper towels Sharp knife (ADULT NEEDED) Cutting board Bowl or pie plate Spoon Measuring spoons Baking pan Pot holders Heatproof spatula or tongs INGREDIENTS Vegetable oil or cooking spray1 (12- to 16-ounce) block firm or extra-firm tofu1 tablespoon low-sodium soy sauce1 tablespoon cider vinegar1 tablespoon toasted sesame oil or vegetable oil INSTRUCTIONS 1.
