Pumpkins are a gorgeous gourd (a large, sometimes edible fruit with hard skin), and we get pretty excited about them. We love carving them into jack-o’-lanterns, but also cooking with them, roasting their seeds, and learning all about them. Join us in our great squash adventure!

PUMPKIN PREDICTIONS Before you carve your jack-o’-lantern, try one or all of these estimating experiments: • Pick up your pumpkin. How heavy do you think it is? Write down your guess, then weigh your pumpkin to see how close you were. (If you have a bathroom scale, weigh yourself with and without the pumpkin, then subtract your weight to find the difference.)• Look at your pumpkin. How big around do you think it is? Cut a piece of string that you think will just go around the widest part of the pumpkin. Now try it. Were you close? Once you get the right length of string, measure it.
