Snappy Edamame

Edamame (green soybeans) make a delicious, nutritious, and satisfying snack. To eat them, just pop the beans out of the pods with your hands or teeth (but don’t eat the pod itself). Kids Advisory Board member Sophia tested this recipe and said, “They were really good, everybody in my family loved them! They were the perfect pods for popping!” (Don’t worry if it seems like a lot of salt: Most of it is on the pods, which you don’t end up eating.)

❚ ADULT: YES ❚ HANDS-ON TIME: 5 MINUTES ❚ TOTAL TIME: 15 MINUTES ❚ MAKES: 6 SERVINGS KITCHEN GEAR Medium pot with lid Pot holders Colander or strainer Measuring cups Measuring spoons Serving bowl INGREDIENTS 1 (1-pound) bag frozen edamame (in their pods)1 teaspoon salt INSTRUCTIONS 1. Put 1 inch of water and the edamame pods in the pot and put the lid on. (The water won’t cover them, and this is fine; it’s really the steam that will cook them.) 2. Put the pot on the stove and turn the heat to high. Once you see steam coming out from under the lid, cook the edamame pods until they are bright green and still firm, about 10 minutes. 3.
