The recent temporary closure of boarding schools across Australia brought into very sharp focus just what a valuable service they offer families in remote, rural and regional Australia. The access to specialist teachers, specialist facilities and the convenience and excitement of living in the city precinct of Sydney were hard for our boarders to relinquish. Of course, however, the hardest of all to give up, even in a temporary closure, were the close friendships and constant companionship that the St Vincent’s College Boarding House nurtures. All the staff were so sad to see the students pack up to leave and the boarders were equally sad to leave the home base that they, together with the Boarding House staff, had created for 2020.
