Burn, baby, burn! As the last piece of the huge burning wooden effigy collapsed into fire, a huge, primal yell echoed over the Arizona desert. I’d never felt so connected to the Earth. Like most, I thought the Burning Man festival was a bunch of hippies dancing round the desert – and that’s true! But it’s so much more than that. I went a few years ago with some friends. The whole idea of Burning Man is that it’s a temporary, self-sufficient, man-made city in the desert. There’s no running water, no shops – the only thing you can buy in Black Rock City is ice!
