FOURTEEN political parties have declared R189 million in donations for the first quarter of the 2024-25 financial year.
This is according to the Electoral Commission of South Africa (IEC) in its first quarter political funding disclosure report for the period from the beginning of April to the end of June.
The IEC said that the value of the first quarter donation disclosure was comparable to the value of donations declared during the fourth quarter of the past financial year.
“Totalling a colossal R189 950 829, this is by far the highest value of donations across all years and quarters since the introduction of the Political Funding Act, as amended,” the electoral body said.
The donations for each party were as follows:
