Past failures driving Stellies to Cup success

After a spate of setbacks in various Cup competitions over the past few months, coach Steve Barker says Stellenbosch FC have set their minds on lifting the Carling Knockout trophy. Barker was speaking after his team opened their campaign in the competition with a 2-1 win over Chippa United in Gqeberha on Saturday, thanks to goals from Andre de Jong and Kgaogelo Sekgota. With the outcome, Stellenbosch are through to the quarter-finals. “In last season’s Nedbank Cup, we lost in the semi-finals on penalties against Sekhukhune United.
