Booming holiday economy boosts confidence

THE “Golden Week” is the People's Republic of China's most extended holiday. Every year the Chinese celebrate the establishment of the People’s Republic of China on 1 October 1949. This year, the Mid-Autumn Festival fell on 29 September which combined with the National Day Golden Week for a long, 8-day holiday from September 29 to October 6. Traditionally, Chinese people use the week-long holiday to travel for leisure and visit their families in other parts of China resulting in the world’s largest migration in the year. This year was no exception as a total of 826 million trips were made in mainland China during the Golden Week.
