Chevon Booysen chevon.booysen@inl.co.za THE assault case against two Moorreesburg police officers has been postponed after the matter was transferred to a regional court earlier this week.
Duwayne Williams and Justin Sassman appeared at Malmesbury Magistrate’s Court on Monday, both facing a charge of assault with intent to do grievous bodily harm.
The two were arrested after Manfred Lewies, 35, died while in police custody. The arrests followed an investigation by the Independent Police Investigative Directorate.
National Prosecuting Authority spokesperson Eric Ntabazalila said: “Their case initially appeared at the Moorreesburg Magistrate’s Court and was transferred to the Malmesbury Regional Court.
“It was then postponed to May 26 in order to furnish the legal representative of the accused with the contents of the docket.”
