Knysna chess tournament sharpens young minds to their full potential
Nicola Daniels nicola.daniels@inl.co.za THE only primary school pupil to compete in the Knysna high schools’ chess tournament, 9-year-old Jacobs Eugeniel, took top honours this week. The Grade 4 pupil from Fraaisig Primary school, who was hand-picked to participate for his talent, won six out of seven games, with a total of 39 points. “I am happy to have won the tournament,” he said. “I look forward to the next one. I liked playing with many people and we must keep playing, because chess is fun.” The Knysna Initiative for Learning and Teaching (Kilt) collaborated with the Western Cape Education Department Safe Schools Programme and the SAPS to deliver the 2021 chess tournament.
