Varsity students give back to the needy
Zanele Mvana zanele.mvana@inl.co.za STUDENTS from different universities in the province have initiated a project to uplift pupils in Khayelitsha and neighbouring townships through a free tutoring programme called Learn Through Science. The programme was founded by 19-year-old Anothando Ncetani from Khayelitsha. Ncetani is studying a BSc in maths and statistical actuarial science at UWC. She said the tutoring programme was her way of giving back to the community. “I started this programme because I saw that the matric pass rate in Khayelitsha has dropped drastically, and many students can’t afford tutoring classes, so my friends and I decided to do the programme free of charge. “I then decided to tutor students and identify which subjects they struggled with. “The tutors and I realised that geography, maths, physical sciences, accounting and…
