Canada scores its best-ever World Championships Canadian athletes performed better than they ever have at the 2023 World Athletics Championships in Budapest in August, capturing four gold and two silver medals. Marco Arop (800m), Pierce LePage (decathlon), Ethan Katzberg (hammer throw) and Camryn Rogers (hammer throw) all brought home gold medals, and Damian Warner (decathlon) and Sarah Mitton (shot put) earned silver. Arop’s and LePage’s were the first world titles ever earned by Canadians in their events. Canada tied with Spain (which also had four gold medals) for the second-highest number of world titles achieved; only the U.S. had more. In addition to the medals won, Canadians nabbed seven personal bests, seven season’s bests and two Canadian records (Evan Dunfee’s in the men’s 20 km race walk and Katzberg’s in the hammer throw).
