North Vancouver’s Natasha Wodak has been at the forefront of Canadian running for the better part of two decades. Now, at 41, she is Canada’s fastest female marathoner, and her future looks brighter than ever. How has she stayed at the top for such a long time?

“What just happened?!” This was Natasha Wodak’s reaction upon breaking the Canadian marathon record in Berlin on Sept. 25. Wodak ran under the historic Brandenburg Gate and crossed the finish line in 2:23:12—a personal best by more than three minutes, and a full minute and a half under the previous record (set by Malindi Elmore at 2:24:50 in early 2020). Berlin was only her fifth marathon. “You know you have A, B and C goals?” Wodak asks, rhetorically. “2:23-low wasn’t even on the chart. I still can’t believe it happened.” Wodak is one of the best female athletes in Canadian running history.
