WHERE IS IT? Just one road back from what looks like a river but is actually an estuary leading out to the sea. It is a ten-minute walk to Copenhagen Central Station, and just under six miles to Copenhagen Airport - we took a Metro train then a bus, which stopped just behind the hotel.

WHAT'S IT LIKE? The hotel is one of several glass-covered buildings in the area, but helpfully has the red Scandic sign on the top of its facade. We arrived too early for check-in, but received a friendly welcome and were told we could store our luggage downstairs in the automated lockers. These took a credit card payment and allowed us to immediately get on with our day.
The hotel was full while we were there - with over 1,000 guests including families on holiday, flight crew, conference guests and business travellers, but there was never a sense that the staff were overwhelmed. There were few queues at reception, which was impressive given the sheer number of people in the hotel - and we only had short waits for the lifts in the mornings, so the hotel has been well-designed.
ROOMS The 632 rooms, including 40 accessible rooms, start from Standard (18-24 sqm) and rise to Superior Plus (24-29 sqm), some of which have bathtubs in addition to showers. There are 29 Junior Suites (31-41 sqm) and one Master Suite (67 sqm). Choose a larger room (King Superior or above) if you want a desk.
The design is smart and functional, with brushed concrete ceilings, wooden floors, good-sized bathrooms with heated floors, and bins with dividers for paper and cardboard, food waste and general waste. All rooms have flatscreen TVs, complimentary wifi and tea and coffee-making facilities. As with most modern hotels, the lighting controls along with the louvred external blinds took some time to work out, but there are plenty of power points and USB sockets close to the bed so you can make sure devices are powered up.
FOOD AND DRINK The buffet breakfast was excellent and there was enough here to skip lunch, including bircher muesli, cold cut meats, freshly sliced cheeses, a waffle-maker, various fruit juices, bowls of cereals and hot dishes including eggs (both scrambled and boiled), sausages and beans. This ground floor area is also a restaurant/bar open for lunch...
