Find tranquillity away from the city's neon lights at this new luxury hotel

THE ECO-FRIENDLY 1 Hotels brand is set to debut a new 211-room biophilic paradise in Tokyo this year, located in the city's upscale Akasaka district. Developed in partnership with Japanese property firm Mori Trust, the hotel will be part of the Tokyo World Gate Akasaka complex. While an opening date has not yet been confirmed, visuals reveal local design details inspired by the Japanese concept of wabi-sabi – the appreciation of beauty in imperfection. Expect soothing stone water features, a ceiling modelled on the raked sand of a Zen garden, plus Oya stone, which was used by architect Frank Lloyd Wright for some of his Japanese buildings.
