KARMA HAD ITS wicked way with me this month. An email arrived in my inbox, subject line dazzling with promise: “Invitation”… “new JW Marriott”… “Maldives”. The golden ticket of travel journalism. RSVP? Hell yes. Naturally, I bragged endlessly about my upcoming itinerary. But, as we all know, pride cometh before a fall… What you won’t read about on page 44 is the four days of relentless rain and thunderstorms that plagued my tropical getaway – freak weather for peak Maldives season. You could say it served me right for being an unbearable boast. But then again, it wasn’t really karma, was it?
