BTAP: You hail from Chicago. How did you come to work in journalism in France? Gouda: I studied journalism at Northwestern University. Because we were required to do a lengthy internship, we weren’t encouraged to study abroad as well, so the minute I graduated, I got on a plane for London. I worked there as an assistant for the BBC World Service, and when my working papers ran out for the UK, I decided to try France. It was a bit of a crazy move as back then I barely spoke French.
