So long in Hong Kong

THE EXCELSIOR, HONG KONG is to close next year. Mandarin Oriental International Limited confirmed the hotel will shut its doors on March 31, 2019, to be redeveloped to make way for a mixed-use commercial building. The news will be a blow to fans of the hotel – and its Dickens Bar – a popular destination among Business Traveller readers. The Excelsior’s heritage dates back to 1841, with the plot of land on which it stands being the first sold at auction after Hong Kong became a British Colony. The hotel opened in 1973 and was the first to have more than 1,000 rooms in Hong Kong.…
