MARRIOTT TO LAUNCH “AFFORDABLE MIDSCALE EXTENDEDSTAY BRAND”

MARRIOTT INTERNATIONAL is the latest major hotel group to announce plans for a new extended-stay concept. Hot on the heels of Hilton's “Project H3” lower-midscale concept, and the upper midscale Hyatt Studios offering (both unveiled this year), Marriott says it will launch an “affordable midscale extended-stay brand” in the US and Canada. With a working title of Project MidX Studios, Marriott said the brand has been designed “for guests in search of affordable, flexible accommodations for an extended stay, typically 20+ nights”. Rates would be around US$80 per night, depending on the market and demand. Features will include on-site laundry facilities and a fitness centre, while suites will come with in-room kitchens. Marriott plans to partner with Concord Hospitality for the first three properties, which are expected to open in late 2024.…
