HEATHROW TARGETS 81.4 MILLION PASSENGERS IN 2024

HEATHROW IS TARGETING record traffic figures this year, as 2023 saw the airport post its first annual profit since before the Covid-19 pandemic. The London hub welcomed 79.2 million passengers last year, and hopes to increase this to 81.4 million in 2024, which would surpass the airport's previous record annual figures of 80.9 million passengers set in 2019. Heathrow restored its place as Europe's busiest airport last year, with Istanbul airport in second place with 76 million. Istanbul is targeting 85 million passengers in 2024, which would see it regain the number one spot. Heathrow recorded an adjusted profit before tax of £38 million in 2023, compared to a loss of £684 million in 2022.
