REFRACTING HISTORY

Throughout my first six months with British Columbia History magazine several people asked me if I'm going to be changing the name of this column. The answer is no. After Aimee Greenaway passed the baton on to me as she moved into the magazine's managing editor role, I didn't want readers to feel things were shifting too abruptly, so I didn't incorporate any major changes from the get-go. But as time has passed and I've reflected on it further, I've become increasingly certain that “Refracting History” is actually the perfect title. For me, it brings to mind both focusing and changing direction—things that I hope might happen for some readers when they learn more about the print and digital resources that are featured here.
