This pageant gave me the opportunity to speak in front of the public, to know that I have power and agency. I can say for the first time and acknowledge that this pageant helped me with that. And it still helps me. That I was “stood up” in front of a large group of people that have travelled from around the entire Pacific Northwest in the entire paddling community and stood me up and acknowledged me as a hard-working young woman. That I’m important, that I am worthy of respect and to encourage me to bring that forward to my community and family.
