Starting as a disadvantaged child and finishing as a successful educator, Leslie Vivian Rogers’ story “offers a striking example of a rags-to-prominence life-history” (Malcolmson and Malcolmson, 1). This booklet follows L.V. Rogers’ life from his birth in England, to his subsequent immigration to Ontario as a Barnardo boy, to his rise as an influential educator in British Columbia. Moving to BC in 1911 after graduating from Queen’s University, Rogers held positions in Kelowna and Vancouver before arriving in Nelson for the start of 1922. He was to spend the next 24 years as the well-respected principal of the Nelson High School before his death in 1946.
