Collective Futures

From utopian communities of the past to rethinking how history should be shared in the future, this issue is, at different times, provocative and entertaining, encouraging conversations about both BC’s history and our collective future. Over the course of a year in development, this issue’s theme experienced an exciting evolution. While early conversations focused on utopian and dystopian communities in British Columbia, the topic expanded after fruitful discussions with the editorial advisory group and the BCHF Magazine committee. The theme, “Collective Futures,” explores how people from the past envisioned their lives unfolding in communities and societies of their making and, further, explores how institutions and individuals in the present make sense of the past and the lives and work of those who have come before.
